But our society (and our relatives specially) only acknowledge percentages that are above 99.9%. Students who fail to meet the astronomical expectations often face self doubt and suffer depression. While the parents apply pressure to prepare their children for the 'wild competitive west' out there, it is this enormous pressure which not only hinders our growth and learning but leads to increased stress and anxiety.

Book excerpt: Few stories from the "greatest generation" are as unforgettable -- or as little known -- as that of the 10th Mountain Division. Today a versatile light infantry unit deployed around the world, the 10th began in 1941 as a crew of civilian athletes with a passion for mountains and snow. In this vivid history, adventure writer Peter Shelton follows the unique division from its conception on a Vermont ski hill, through its dramatic World War II coming-of-age, to the ultimate revolution it inspired in American outdoor life. In the late-1930s United States, rock climbing and downhill skiing were relatively new sports. But World War II brought a need for men who could handle extreme mountainous conditions -- and the elite 10th Mountain Division was born. Everything about it was unprecedented: It was the sole U.S. Army division trained on snow and rock, the only division ever to grow out of a sport. It had an un-matched number of professional athletes, college scholars, and potential officer candidates, and as the last U.S. division to enter the war in Europe, it suffered the highest number of casualties per combat day. This is the 10th's surprising, suspenseful, and often touching story. Drawing on years of interviews and research, Shelton re-creates the ski troops' lively, extensive, and sometimes experimental training and their journey from boot camp to the Italian Apennines. There, scaling a 1,500-foot "unclimbable" cliff face in the dead of night, they stunned their enemy and began the eventual rout of the German armies from northern Italy. It was a self-selecting elite, a brotherhood in sport and spirit. And those who survived (including the Sierra Club's David Brower, Aspen Skiing Corporation founder Friedl Pfeifer, and Nike cofounder Bill Bowerman, who developed the waffle-sole running shoe) turned their love of mountains into the thriving outdoor industry that has transformed the way Americans see (and play in) the natural world.

Book excerpt: The author was born in N.Y.C, He lived and was educated in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania at private schools, including military academies and Columbia University. Before the age of 10, he had traveled throughout most of Europe with his father and grandfather. After his military service in Vietnam and Europe he continued traveling around the world. His professional career in the Optical industry included a Far East trade mission, to South America, and Europe, with the U.S Department of Commerce. This global travel has given him a unique view of life and the world we live in. However, it was his Grandfather’s home in a small Pennsylvania Valley in the Pocono Mountains that imprinted his soul and spirit. For many years, he with his large family and friends would enjoy his most endearing and memorable times there. While serving in Vietnam during his darkest moments, it was the images of the peaceful valley in Pennsylvania that would sustain him, and inspire his writing. The charm and natural surroundings of the forest and beautiful lake that the home abutted was never to be forgotten. He also utilizes his expertise as a former wine broker to skillfully weave that knowledge into his story. But it’s the author’s deep respect for the American Veteran, love of God and Country that is his greatest inspiration. The Author reaches deep within the reader and touches every emotion a human being possesses.

Is there anything that can be done to stop them? Can the United States's oldest and most loyal Indian military ally, the Choctaws, stop them? Or do Choctaws pose the most difficult problem of all? In this provocative and incendiary book, D. L. Birchfield bluntly points out what few are willing to say: America's population superiority is now meaningless; its population density is a crippling liability; and the United States has a dangerous "Indian problem." If you don't know about the American betrayal of the Choctaws, or whether Choctaws are still loyal to the United States, or why the third largest Indian nation in North America is virtually unknown to Americans, sit back and hold on as Birchfield pulls back the curtain to reveal a startling future, with an irreverence and disdain for convention that is anything but subtle.

This book was released on 2021-02-08 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every event in life has a context. We are encouraged to take decisions based on the context and the options which present themselves. Right from my school days, I had taken keen interest in trekking and mountaineering. At various stages of my life, I availed of the opportunity to go for treks, attended rock climbing program at Nuh organised by Delhi Mountaineering Association and also enrolled for the Basic Mountaineering Course at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute at Darjeeling in 1983. I couldn't finish the course because of sickness. My love for mountains started with the school trips at my alma mater Modern School where I got exposed to trekking in and around Nainital and Dalhousie (Khajjiar, Chamba). Passion for the mountains has been a constant theme of my personal life. So, when the opportunity of the Expedition 2 to Margan Pass (13000 ft) presented itself, I had no hesitation in joining along with 10 other students from 1st and 2nd years of the MBA program at Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi. This was a milestone for me. I subsequently led the Expedition 3 to Sach Pass (15000 ft). The learnings from these real-life events were life changing. The lessons learnt were to shape my corporate career which was to follow after the MBA Program. During the expeditions, you go through real life experiences which help you to test and improve your leadership skills. The expeditions were like a leadership laboratory on teamwork, risk taking, project strategizing, resourcing, planning, inter-personal conflict resolution and crisis management. Needless to say, at a personal level, it was a humbling experience. I have shared these experiences with various generations of students at FMS in the form of a case study, hoping that someday they would benefit from these lessons. I could have written this book earlier in my life but I would have perhaps missed out on the leadership experiences and formal leadership concepts which I have learnt along the way.
